:omg: ...wow.
I just stumbled upon this one; It's brilliant! It really deserves the DD!

And it refers to one of my favorite quotes from the Fritz too. :)

Thank you very much, it's always nicer to receive such compliments from other people interested in history. :)

Beautifuly written! I love that it's sort of a cyclic story, especially when the begining is so good.
and you totally deserved that DD.

Thank youuuu and I'm happy you approve of the circular structure: I think that whatever moral this story has, it's packed up in there.

Evviva l'allegria! :icongrintwitchplz:
E chi non vorrebbe cavalli non morti, vermi e sorci come animali domestici, dico io?

Aw shiz. This is why zombies are generally mindless. It would be just too cruel if they could think.

Yes, pretty much. I don't think being aware, seeing and sensing that your own body is rotting away does much to put someone in a good mood. :|

Loved how creepy this is and the fact that it's not just about the horror, it's also about the process of war. :D I would prefer it with breaks between the paragraphs for better internet readability, but it was worth the whole extra click to add indents.

Breaks added. I'm going to treat it like a funny game and (slowly) do the same for all the written word in my gallery, whee!

Thank you once more, I am forever happy to creep with class. *bows*

This is amazing..... I was quite literally enraptured. I didn't even hear the timer on the oven go off while I was reading it, the voices of the bloody Russians drowned out the incessant beeping emanating from the kitchen. Which I was sitting in.
So, long story short, you did an amazing job. You should listen to War songs more often, if this is the product! ♥ Once again, great job.

Oh snap, I hope I didn't ruin your meal beyond repair! Damned Russians, they and their catchy tunes. Amusingly enough, listening to their war songs makes me write much merrier stuff than this.

Oh, it's quite alright. Squash doesn't taste that good anyways. Plus, I enjoyed your poem much more than I would have enjoyed a meal that wasn't slightly burned. XD Oh, and have you ever heard "Sgt. McKensie?" It's an old Scottish song about war that my dad has suddenly discovered a fetish for.

Yes, I do know that one, and for some mysterious reason I fail to find it that much haunting. OTOH, I like A Scottish soldier more, so I may just have shitty taste in music.

Both songs being vastly trumped by The gentleman soldier, The Pogues version. There is a limit to the amount of sentimentalism I can stomach, after all.

I am quite positive this one was at the peak of the playlist back then: [link] And such classics as Ich hatt'einen Kameraden, because my brain must have interpreted the line: He lay to my feet, as if he were a piece of me in the most literal, decaying sense possible.
